The Wisconsin Council on Problem Gambling (WCPG) just awarded the Wisconsin Lottery with its 2009 “Leadership Award.” Say what?!?!?
How does the state’s lottery, which is based on the false premise that taking money away from Wisconsin citizens in a lottery to “help” with property tax relief is a good idea, get WCPG’s “prestigious” award? Well, apparently the state lottery instituted an awareness campaign that “increased calls to the council’s helpline,” (no kidding!), financially supported WCPG and established a long-term relationship with the organization.
Come now, WCPG, let’s not encourage the state lottery. It preys on unsuspecting people who do not understand the odds, may be violating the constitution with its questionable advertising and spends the vast majority of its “property tax relief” revenue on administration and advertising.
