A Vote That Counts in an Election That Counts

This weeks’ radio commentary:

“…Select out of all the people able men, who fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain; and you shall place these over them as leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens.” So says Exodus 18:21(NASB).

You may not have known that the Bible talks about elections! Well, this verse is not actually about an election. In this passage, Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, charges Moses to find honorable men to set up as judges over the people of Israel.

So while the verse is not directly about elections, what an excellent reminder it is for us as we face an extremely important election on this coming Tuesday, November 2! We need to select honorable men and women of truth, who fear God and hate corruption.

Appling v. Doyle

Today’s radio commentary:

1.26 million. That’s a really large number. Here are some comparisons for you. 1.26 million is about the size of the entire population of Dallas, Texas, the ninth-largest city in the United States. It’s about the number of abortions performed in the U.S. in 2005.  1.26 million is about the number of charities and private foundations registered with the IRS as of March of this year.

1.26 million is especially significant for me because it’s the number of votes cast for one-man, one-woman marriage in Wisconsin in November of 2006, just four years ago. Almost 60% of Wisconsin voters cast their ballots in favor of an amendment to Wisconsin’s state constitution that protects the definition of and the institution of marriage in Wisconsin. That’s quite a majority.

Truly Informed and Aware

This week’s radio commentary:

You know a piece of information about a decision a friend is making that he/she does not know. That piece of information is vitally important to this decision and to the health, and perhaps life, of your friend. Would you choose to withhold that information? Of course you wouldn’t!

You would make sure that friend had that vital information because you care about your friend. Even if there was a chance your information was incorrect, you’d still let your friend know about it on the scary chance that it was, in fact, correct.

Listen to the following statement and determine if this sounds like a reliable source of information for individuals needing to make important decisions for their futures:
We are a trusted health care provider, an informed educator, a passionate advocate…[promoting] a commonsense approach to women’s health and well-being, based on respect for each individual’s right to make informed, independent decisions…

Sounds convincing, doesn’t it? Well, that statement is taken directly from Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s website page—referring to Planned Parenthood itself. If that was all you knew about Planned Parenthood, you might reasonably be expected to believe that Planned Parenthood champions women’s health and informed decisions.
